I take a student-centered approach to figure drawing instruction. Determining each students work habits and emerging styles, I encourage and promote foundation building, exploration, and risk-taking on an individual level.  I feel that this not only develops skills faster but also fosters unique and more intriguing approaches to the figure as traditional subject matter. I continually find that this approach helps to nurture better and more productive art students. Drawing and the figure are the centerpieces of my own drawing. My own creative work deals with self-portraiture and the interaction between humans and our world. The influence that we have on our environ-ment, both natural and man-made, both positive and negative and the effect that they have on us, is a constant theme in my work. The hand drawn mark is critical to my work and for me becomes the literal interaction between man and his surroundings. I tend to explore drawing through a more sculptural, installation type manner, enabling my drawings to interact with the space. My teaching is heavily informed by my studio process and artwork. The ever changing and evolving drawing projects that I develop and teach illustrate the passion that I have for drawing the figure that in turn inspires my students to approach the subject from a multitude of view points.
